IDEA: Use internet job search engines to find other machine brand owners, versus job openings.

Try searching on job search engines such as Indeed.com for machine brands your company owns.  Instead of entering job titles, enter machine brands (i.e. Haas, Briggs Stratton, Troy-Bilt, Stihl, Bridgemill, Shop Fox, Okuma, Mazak, Jet, Grizzly, etc.).   Review the results and contact the companies which ran the advertisements.  Call and ask to speak with their maintenance departments or ask who are the employees who buy parts and hire service for machinery and equipment under your brand. They may reveal cheaper alternative prices or better local repair shops and service mechanics that they use to fix their machines or your options you provide to them may save them money also. Either outcome, it is worth it to meet other machine owners to provide support.  They may have access to great technicians in town you do not know or can help arrange less expensive service fees when both of your companies coordinate repairs on the same technician trip. Share your own company’s cost cutting ideas and develop a future source for equipment repair ideas.

Another idea you may want to consider is if you do not have enough machines to hire a full time maintenance man, you may offer to pay for part time for a mechanic and the other company might be willing to pay the other half of a competitive salary.  This is important for those mechanics who know and specialize in certain brands of equipment.

Is there anything we missed?
