To ensure you get what you ordered, have the receiving personnel independently identify and count all of the items on a delivery on their own blank receiving report. Hand that report to someone in the shipping department who will compare it to the trucker’s bill of lading. The two lists should be the same and if not, mark shortages or overages with the corrections on the BOL and make the trucker sign and acknowledge the discrepancy. You want to make sure you are billed for what is delivered because it is more difficult after the truck is gone to try to claim shortages. Those product shortfalls need to be found before the truck leaves so the truck driver can be an independent acknowledgement. Otherwise, receiving personnel who are willing to cut corners will simply sign off on the bill of lading (containing the wrong overcount) and miss a short short-shipment. This shortage may not be found at all until the physical inventory is taken months away.
