Your firm spends a lot on its insurance (i.e. general liability, umbrella, automotive, product liability, excess), so ask these various carriers if they can offer discounts to your employees for personal home insurance? (i.e. Automobile, general liability, life insurance, home or renters’ insurance, etc.). You may have an insurance broker instead that coordinates efforts between you and your carriers so ask him about potential employee discounts. If the carriers you deal with do not offer this to individuals, the broker may have ties to an agency that will be glad to extend special discounts to your employee database.
Ask for this free employee benefit. This costs you nothing, encourages the vendor to help your firm and improves your employee benefit program at no cost to you, the employer. Even if the insurance carrier or the specific broker you use does not offer this coverage, they may have agreements with other firms or agencies that can benefit your employees. If either the insurance carrier or the broker can help, mention that you are going to call other brokers that have expressed an interest in securing your company’s business. Press the matter and increase your benefits for nothing other than a small amount of your time.
