Instead of everyone in your company keeping a drawer full of various business cards, have one person accumulate them. Pick them up from all sales reps, purchasing personnel, managers, shipping personnel, truck drivers or anyone who collects them from customers or vendors.
There are business card readers that you can scan the card data so you can quickly return the cards to the respective employees. You can use these devices to make data entry faster, but do not forget the reason for gathering this data. You want to extract information to add to your company’s excellent database. If cleaned and corrected, this should provide excellent sales leads, purchasing leads or other important industry connections.
Your firm already has a wealth of information sitting in thousands of unread business cards that sit in top drawers, briefcase pockets, auto dashboards and elsewhere scattered through the company. Make sure the assigned person creates groups of contacts (i.e. finance banks, material vendors, outside service vendors, tax preparation services, auditing firms, hardware stores, customers’ buyers). Gather them up and turn them into opportunities.
