IDEA: Never ignore great sales candidates; hire more than you need because half will probably fail or leave.
Always hire a great sales candidate when you have the opportunity. You do not know when you will see another. For reasons still unknown to hiring managers, you never exactly know which candidates will succeed for you in your particular business and which will fail. It is safer to hire more than you think. Half of the candidates will not work out so you need extras on board and working when you must terminate one and start to look for his replacement. You cannot afford to go with a short sales staff. You will always need to have more than you think to fulfill your company’s growth targets. The worst that happens if you hire too many is that they all work out and double company sales. The worst that happens if you do not hire enough is half fail and you are stuck without a solid presence in the marketplace, a costly and long lasting management mistake.
