IDEA: Vehicle accidents: prepare a checklist for all company drivers, what to do, pictures to take, what to notice and write down and who to call.

Prepare a checklist for all of your drivers to keep in their company leased cars or trucks on what to do in the event of an accident.

What to do in an accident before you leave the scene:

  • Instruct them to call the police to report the accident regardless who is at fault.
  • Write down other car’s license plate number of VIN if found.
  • Take pictures of the accident damage and send it to the insurance company or the company manager.
  • Take a picture of the other driver’s license and insurance policy.
  • Give the other driver a copy of your driver’s license and insurance information.
  • Wait for the police to appear; do not leave unless they instruct you to drive to a police station to report it (minor accidents).
  • Call the telephone number on the insurance certificate that is kept in the glovebox of the leased vehicle.
  • Call the manager at work to report the accident, especially if this was a truck making a delivery by a specific date or time.
  • Even if the other driver takes off and leaves the scene, instruct the company insured driver not to leave the scene of the accident
